Lawrence Bernstein: Direct marketer & Copywriter

Yes, I have been on hiatus for a while for reasons I won’t get into at the moment.

I’m going off tangent from the usual direct response marketing and copywriting here… I realize.

I am not a “search guy.”

I know people who are truly proficient and have created bang-up careers of it.

But I’ve always felt leery of waking up the next morning and discovering that Google’s yanked the carpet out from under me… no matter how much revenue the business brought in yesterday.

Admittedly, it’s “safer” on the search side with Mother Google than on the PPC side for reasons most are well acquainted with.

After two months of ignoring web stats, it was interesting to login today and see that this site gets between 200-400 targeted visitors each day without sending traffic through email broadcasts or paid advertising.

I’ve really stopped caring about sheer numbers long ago and will take that one, massively engaged, targeted visitor over 20 mouse clickers any day.

Before it became trendy, I employed a terrific SEO company in Hyderabad, India that helped me get a lot of traffic to my sites, particularly in the real estate market during the great pyramid from 2004-2008.

Later these companies spread like mushrooms and the incompetent hucksters outnumbered the decent ones by several multiples.

I’ve always been interested in search.

And though I’d rather be a competent direct marketer and copywriter over a superstar at search marketing, search has been very good to me and I’m looking at going after some of the low hanging fruit that’s been around me for a while.

Ahead of Wikipedia and About.com

This morning, when I searched in Google for the term “marketing info” (sans quotes) this site was ahead of both Wikipedia and About.com.

Granted this could change 5 minutes from now but it suggests if you’ve got a moderately trafficked site with even a hint of a loyal following, ranking with (and even ahead) of such giants is possible for many search terms.

Oh, and if you’ve gotten anything valuable off of this site and happen to click on the link just above… I wouldn’t be broken up if you clicked on the Info Marketing Blog link in the search results. 🙂
