Untold thousands of “Marie Davant” tinytorials (tiny advertorials) graced the pages of print for over four decades.
BUT… one wonders… did Marie Davant even exist?
Cynics have similarly wondered about Ruth L. McCarthy.
You can always take away something from press advertising with a track record this long.
Why?
Because the “technique of print” will never die, even when print does and you can translate the ideas, layouts and one word stoppers, like “WRINKLES”… from display advertising… to online display.
“Science has found a white substance made with quicksilver that works wonders on wrinkled, roughened face and hands. Use it one time and it is entirely possible you will see improvement next morning.”
Not bad anti-aging copy all these decades later. Who knows… maybe Marie was the copywriter as well as the face of Peacock’s Imperial Cream?
